TOMCSANYI is a Budapest-based slow-fashion womenswear brand offering handcrafted, made-to-order pieces with a strong commitment to responsible manufacture and conscious luxury. With a focus on minimalist, modern cuts and one-of-a-kind, hand-drawn prints, TOMCSANYI designs timeless collections that blend heritage with a contemporary twist.

Born from a diploma project and first spotlighted by Susie Bubble in 2012, the brand has become synonymous with bold, playful, and unconventional design. In the TOMCSANYI universe, nothing is taken for granted — life’s unexpected and often overlooked moments are reimagined through unique, intellectually appealing patterns that tell stories beyond fashion.

In its first decade, the brand drew inspiration from the textures and aesthetics of post-socialist Hungary, transforming elements of local art, architecture, and industrial design into vivid visual statements. These early collections explored the fabric of everyday life, filtered through a lens of thoughtful craftsmanship and eco-conscious creativity.

Since 2023, TOMCSANYI has refined its focus to explore the depths of Hungarian national identity. Drawing on traditional symbolism and folk patterns, each collection becomes a cultural experiment — an effort to translate Hungary’s rich heritage into ethical clothing designed for today’s world. The brand’s prints are not only handcrafted and earth-positive, but they also carry a deeper meaning, connecting wearers to a broader story of place and identity.

The expressive prints are grounded by clean, functional silhouettes that support a capsule wardrobe mindset. These timeless forms emphasize comfort, versatility, and responsible luxury while aligning with TOMCSANYI’s mission to operate as a zero-waste clothing brand. Every garment is made using conscious, eco-friendly materials such as organic cotton poplin, lyocell, and viscose, selected with care for both people and the planet.

The Designer

Dóri Tomcsányi brings a deeply personal and distinctive perspective to contemporary fashion, rooted in her unique background. Raised at the crossroads of noble Hungarian heritage and socialist working-class values, she channels this dual identity into every collection of her eponymous brand.

Her innate love of patterns and textiles — shaped by vivid childhood memories of post-socialist Hungary — naturally led her to pursue a career in fashion design. A lifelong observer of visual culture, Dóri draws continuous inspiration from mid-century minimalism, found in furniture, interiors, and textile design. Today, her creative journey focuses on finding new ways to infuse national identity into contemporary, ethical clothing that balances tradition with modernity.

She leads her independent slow fashion label alongside a tight-knit team that includes a pattern designer, a head of production, and a group of dedicated, highly skilled seamstresses who bring the brand’s handcrafted, made-to-order pieces to life.

Beyond her role as a designer and creative director, Dóri also teaches fashion design at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design and is currently pursuing postgraduate studies — continuing to shape and share her evolving vision for conscious, intellectual, and responsible fashion.
